Inter-communal Civil Movement for Solution– Reunification -Peace
DECLARATION
1. The negotiation process is gradually coming into its final crucial phase. The two leaders appear determined to push the process forward despite the inherent difficulties. Greece and Turkey as well as the EU and the United Nations express their support for a solution. Yet the unfavourable political climate cultivated by the forces that are opposing the solution on both sides appear to be more vociferous. This situation, that tends to obscure the benefits of a solution and cultivates fear, makes the joint action of the pro-solution forces imperative.
2. It is precisely for that reason that Trade Unions, movements, NGOs and other Civil Society groups and individuals from both sides of the divide, have come together :
· To express their determination to work together in mobilizing the people in support of the two leaders efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem, utilizing fully the current favourable timing.
· To give hope and a positive vision to our people that a solution is necessary and within sight.
· To effectively organize a campaign to raise public awareness of the immediate need for a solution and the benefits that will result.
3. We urge the political leaders to push without delay for a settlement on the basis of the parameters agreed, for a Bi-zonal, Bi-communal federation based on political equality and a single sovereignty, international personality and citizenship.
4. We begin the process of building an inter-communal movement to intervene in the political sphere to bring together all civic organizations and citizens to struggle for reunification, mutual respect, understanding and reconciliation of the people of Cyprus.
Intended Actions:
To this end we intend to organize a rally at the beginning of December to demonstrate our will to struggle for reunification of our country as a matter of urgency. Our concerted action will continue until we reach our desired goal which is none other than the resolution of the problem resulting in a reunified demilitarized, federal and peaceful country without barbed wires.
Dear friends,
the time to make a concerted move is already overdue but nevertheless there is still time to be effective. Let's make full use of the opportunity before us and let's not loose any more time.
For the organizations/groups that have taken the initiative: Huseyin Akansoy, Nicos Trimikliniotis,Shener Elcil,Christos E. Stavrou,SalihOztoprack,Soteris Vlachos
